Major upgrades to power, water and sewerage networks in Muṯitjulu

Work is about to begin on a project to upgrade ageing power, water and sewerage networks in Muṯitjulu, the community inside the borders of Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park.

A $122 million contract has been awarded to complete the work, which will also include installing a solar farm with battery back-up to make the town more sustainable and less dependent on diesel fuel.

The Muṯitjulu population is made up of about 300 Aṉangu, along with Parks Australia staff and many other who people who in live and work in the community.

Work will begin in late October 2026 and is expected to be complete towards the end of 2028. While the project is underway, it will create training and employment opportunities for community members.

On completion, the community will have more reliable, sustainable services that will enable the community to continue to continue to grow.
