More information: Park closures on 25 and 26 June 2026 due to Sorry Business

There are many types of gecko in Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa, but the knob-tailed gecko is the easiest to identify thanks to its oversized head and distinctive tail.

Knob-tailed geckos feed on insects, spiders and occasionally smaller geckos. When threatened, they can detach their tail to distract predators.

These geckos live in the more open areas of the park and tend to rest in their burrows during the hot part of the day.
