The brush-tailed mulgara is a small carnivorous marsupial. Its closest relatives include the Tasmanian devil and the quoll.

Mulgaras live in burrows on the flats of low sand dunes. A burrow usually has one main entrance with two to three side tunnels and pop holes.

They hunt at night, feeding mainly on insects, spiders and small invertebrates.

Mulgaras are vulnerable right across Australia. Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park has a management program for the species that involves annual surveys and patch burning to create an ideal habitat.
