Program announced for Handback celebrations
An exciting program has been finalised for the 40th anniversary of Handback.
Handback celebrates the anniversary of the hand back of the title deeds to Uluṟu and Kata Tjuṯa to Aṉangu Traditional Owners.
A free public celebration will be held to mark the anniversary on Saturday 25 October, on the theme of Fire of the Past, Igniting the Hearts of the Future: Waru Iritinguru, Tiliningi Kurunpa Kuranyukutungku Katiringkupai.
The event will be held at Talinguṟu Nyakunytjaku, the sunrise viewing site, with gates opening at 3pm for a marketplace showcasing Aṉangu arts and crafts, local Indigenous organisations and school stalls.
Official proceedings will commence at 4:15pm and will include inma (traditional dance) and a concert featuring Dr Shellie Morris AO with performers Muṯitjulu School and Nyangatjatjara Colleg, Iwiri Choir, Shane Howard with Trevor, UPK Band, Dem Mob, Jamie Fejo Band, Docker River Band, and Muṯitjulu Band.
Dinner will be included for all attendees, and there will also be food for sale throughout the day.
Visitors are encouraged to stay hydrated and sun safe by bringing a wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen and a drink bottle with a water station available.
There will be shuttle buses running between Yulara and the event site from 3pm, with timetables available closer to the event.
Please note that Talinguṟu Nyakunytjaku will be open as usual on for sunrise viewing on 25 and 26 October, but parking will be reduced.
The event is free for community and visitors with a valid park pass. Everyone is welcome, and we look forward to you joining us to mark this significant event.
