Brown falcon
Brown falcons can be seen across the park all year round, especially where there are large trees or rocks for them to perch on.
This bird of prey grows as large as 55 cm. It has brown feathers on its upper parts and a cream or pale yellow-beige underbelly.
It survives on a diet of small mammals, reptiles and the occasional bird. The falcon usually hunts from an exposed perch, swooping down to grab prey in its claws and kill it with a bite to the spine.
You can identify a brown falcon in flight from its long, pointed, upswept wings and its slow wing beats.
Look for it in the sky and around rocky areas, particularly on the Mala walk.
